Crystel Amsalem is a Paris-born filmmaker whose work bridges French and American cinema with equal fluency. She began making films at a young age and trained at the Sorbonne Film School before studying acting with John Strasberg, Jack Waltzer, and Susan Batson of Actors Studio. She later continued her writing and directing studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she directed her first short film, Another Girl. Alongside her acting work in French and English-language television and features—including Highlander, Neuf Mois, and Coup de Vice—Amsalem began writing and directing her own short films. Works such as Les Copines and Rebecca screened at major festivals, including Festival Côté court de Pantin and Palm Springs International Film Festival. Her debut feature, Quand les Anges s’en mêlent… (When Angels Interfere…), travelled the international festival circuit—from New York and Boston to Melbourne, Palm Beach, and Washington—and earned Alexandre Brasseur the Best Actor award at the Paris Film Festival.

As a director, Amsalem brings a sharp instinct for guiding performances, rooted in her own training as an actor. Her visual sensibility is atmospheric and intentional, and her screenwriting voice is distinctly personal. She co-founded a U.S.-based production company with Patrick Lévy and Jeff Kranzdorf, and is currently developing feature films and television series built around ambitious, thought-provoking stories with strong female protagonists.

Crystel Amsalem est une réalisatrice parisienne dont le parcours artistique s’inscrit entre la France et les États-Unis. Elle commence à réaliser très jeune et se forme à la Sorbonne Film School avant d’étudier le jeu d’acteur auprès de John Strasberg, Jack Waltzer et Susan Batson, membre de l’Actors Studio. Elle poursuit ensuite ses études d’écriture et de réalisation à l’University of California, Santa Barbara, où elle signe son premier court métrage, Another Girl. Parallèlement à sa carrière de comédienne dans des productions françaises et anglophones — notamment Highlander, Neuf Mois et Coup de Vice — elle écrit et réalise ses propres courts métrages. Des films comme Les Copines et Rebecca sont sélectionnés dans des festivals majeurs tels que le Festival Côté court de Pantin et le Palm Springs International Film Festival. Son premier long métrage, Quand les Anges s’en mêlent… (When Angels Interfere…), circule dans de nombreux festivals internationaux — de New York à Boston, Melbourne, Palm Beach et Washington — et permet à Alexandre Brasseur de recevoir le prix d’interprétation au Paris Film Festival.

En tant que réalisatrice, elle se distingue par une direction d’acteurs précise et sensible, nourrie par sa propre formation de comédienne.
